10 Facts About Final Cut Revised

Going through the boxes at Final Cut is like going through laundry;
you never know what you'll find!

Not exactly Charleston-related, every time I go to South Carolina, my husband and I drive out of the way, through Augusta, GA, to stop by Final Cut and sift through the clothing at this popular thrift store. What I have learned from the many stops we've made there is to keep an open mind, ask about prices before checkout, and tighten your wallet when you find things you aren't certain you will wear. With their no-return policy, in some cases you will have better luck and pay better prices if you buy directly from the store. (Especially when it involves sale items from Anthropologie!)

Here's a list of facts about Final Cut that I shared almost a year ago, with a bit of revision, stemming from what I've learned since that time.

1. Final Cut has boxes and boxes of clothes. They are sorted by store received from (for the most part) and year that the item was available. Aside from that, you will have to get down on your hands and knees and just search. Most clothing does not have a size listed on it, and occasionally you will find pieces that are snagged or twisted together (i.e. lace and zippers). Check your clothing carefully before purchasing.

2. Wedding dresses from BHLDN! The majority of these cannot be bought for $20; however, if you want one for $100, you are in luck! :) Last time I was there, there were only a few to choose from, but these probably varies depending on stock. These are some of the only pieces of clothing hung on hangers in the store!

3. Very little clothing is sorted and hung on hangers. It, obviously, is the easiest to go through and often the least damaged. It is priced the same as the boxed clothing.

4. Tons of furniture! Granted this is not a furniture store, but there is a lot of furniture. Some of the furniture is damaged. The discounted prices may not make that furniture worthwhile. But other furniture? OMG! YES! $100 for a gorgeous front and back bed post? Or what about a chandelier? If Justin and I were in a better position for furniture buying, I would be all over it! :)

5. Jewelry, shoes, and accessories hang on boards throughout the store. I haven't ever seen any that I actually want, so I couldn't tell you if they are occasionally tangled or broken, but I did want to mention that they exist. Now you know.

6. Books. I've only been once when I had time to look, and because I receive so many books for free in exchange for a review, the idea of paying for a book simply isn't as appealing as it once was. Plus, these books aren't sorted at all! You might find a kid's book next to a cookbook next to a travel book! The pages could be torn and the binding could be messed up. Be sure the book you are looking at is in good condition before you take it to the register.

7. Sheets, table clothes, duvets, etc are all thrown into a few bins and ready for you to go through. If you are looking for something specific, good luck! In my opinion, these bins are hardly worth looking through. I'd much rather spend my time going through the boxes of clothes.

8. Don't expect to find many home accessories and knick knacks. There was only really one aisle of these on about 4 or 5 shelves.

9. The dressing rooms close early. I arrived at the store at 6PM and had to race to the dressing room to try on clothes before 6:30PM, the dressing room closing time. I understand they are trying to close the store in a timely manner, but it was frustrating. Lesson learned? Get there early.

10. If you buy items that do have a tag on them (very few do), the cashier will rip the tag off at the time of purchase. There are no refunds or exchanges … to Anthropologie or Final Cut.

So is it worth it to take a detour on your next vacation to Final Cut? It depends on how much you like thrift shopping and scoring a deal. If you are looking for an old Anthropologie/Free People/BHLDN/Urban Outfitters item, you might be able to make a score. If you are looking for a new one, the same is true. But no matter what, you will likely have the best luck (and most fun) if you go into the store with an open mind not expecting to find anything in particular and with a full wallet just in case you find everything. The prices here are not exactly thrift store prices and the items sold here aren't all in the best shape, but what you will find are huge discounts on branded items typically sold from the Urban Outfitters branded stores.

So … thoughts? Will you be making the trek out to Final Cut? Were you aware that an Anthropologie discount store existed?

* This is not a paid endorsement. Just thought I'd share one of my most recent travel-related discoveries. :)

Xiaolizi's Etsy Shop Review

When Justin and I began preparing for our 2015/2016 trip to Europe, one of the first things I knew I had to look for (aside from shoes) was a fantastic, warm coat. My problem: I wanted pretty; Justin wanted me to have practical. Of course, this was even more of a problem with regards to shoes than the coat.

We started our shopping at the typical outdoorsy stores – REI, Dick's Sporting Goods, Gander. Then we moved on to department stores – Macy's, Von Maur, Bloomingdales. Nothing was striking my fancy. They all looked blah. :( Not to mention we were shopping for coats in October in Georgia when the weather outside was hanging in the 70s. I didn't feel a need for a coat and, living in one of the warmer states in the US, I'm assuming the stores didn't have a strong desire to keep coats in stock. I had just about given up on ever finding the perfect coat when I remembered a beautiful coat I had pinned way back when pinterest was just starting up…

As it turns out, the coat I originally fell in love no longer existed, but the pin got me to Xiaolizi's etsy page which was all I really needed. Yes, I was still fawning over the beautiful coats, but, with them being handmade in China, would this type of coat work for my trip to Europe? Would it come to me made out of thin material and look like something out of a horror movie? I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've been fooled by China before (read about BuyTrends); I didn't want to make that mistake twice! :)

So I looked for blog reviews and found none. Well, ok. One. There were plenty of reviews on the etsy shop page, but did I trust them?

Obviously, the answer was "yes". When you get past a certain number of etsy reviews, you tend to doubt that the seller has forged reviews. At just over 3,000 customer reviews and five stars, I assumed the likeliness of Xiaolizi's shop being legit was pretty high.

I ordered my coat on November 17 – the maxi wool long swing coat with hood in black. I ordered up in size, but didn't provide Xiaolizi with any measurements. Within a day, Xiaolizi had responded asking for my measurements. She needed to know my waist, hip, and chest size, my height, and my weight. Justin and I pulled out our measuring tape and got to work. I refused to give her my weight at first, but then gave in. In fact, while I was busy sending measurements and confirmations, I asked her to add some extra buttons to the coat, which she agreed to. Yay! :)

My coat finally arrived to Georgia on December 8th, almost one month after my purchase. I immediately tried it on and fell in love! The coat is extremely heavy, but it has pockets, so that's cool. And best of all, the coat fits me like a glove.

If you are considering purchasing any of Xiaolizi's beautiful pieces, I can say, without a doubt in my mind, that you will love whatever you purchase. Her coats (from my experience) are beautifully designed and would give me full confidence in ordering other things, like dresses from her as well. Plus, the first time you put your made-to-order coat on, you will feel like a princess. Yes, her coats are costly, but they are worth every penny.

Before this review, had you heard of Xiaolizi's shop before? Would you consider purchasing any of these lovely handmade coats in the future?

* This review is not a paid review. I received nothing in exchange for writing it – I just really love their products! Go check them out! :)

10 Fab Fashion Finds For Fall

Labor Day is once again upon us which means it's that time of year when you switch out your short sleeves and shorts for sweaters and jeans. As much as I love summer dresses, I'm honestly very much looking forward to fall. Hot drinks, warm clothes, blankets (ALL of the blankets!), s'mores, and fall leaf looking are just a few of my seasonal must-haves. While, as a Georgia blogger, I still have a few more months of excruciating heat (c'mon cool temperatures!), I still thought I would take some time to see what all is currently available in stores as the summer-wear moves out and the fall attire moves in.

1. With Love Dress

It was made for my blog readers, right?!? It also comes in a gorgeous purple (huckleberry), black and tea.

2. Extratropical Dress

The combination of boots with loooooonnnnnnngggggg laces and a skirted dress with frills simply delights me!

3. Beatnik Tunic

I'm always looking for warm weather attire that will be comfortable and flattering, which I think this does. Paired with leggings, a cute hat (as seen above) and some boots and I'll be in business! The business of looking comfortably cute and warm, that is! :)

4. We The Free Sunset Park Thermal (@ Macy's for cheaper)

One of the reasons I'm constantly returning to Free People to purchase my clothes is not because of the quality. (They could definitely improve in that department!) It's also not necessarily because of the cute bohemian chic look (which I ADORE!), but it's mostly because of all the ways you can layer. Pair a sweater with a dress (or slip) and jeans and your done! Complicated, fun, and unique – just like you. (Or me, as the case may be). Besides, the Free People Me section at the bottom of each product page provides an endless amount of inspiration from other Free People wearers helping you to better envision what the clothing will look like on you and to give you ideas of different ways to wear the clothing!

5. Scrolled Trim Open-Back Flare Dress

The little black dress is kind of a year round need, don't ya think? ;)

6. Houndstooth Belted Flare Tweed Coat

Do houndstooth coats ever go out of fashion?

7. Free People Pretty Pointelle Sweater

Anyone else think the model could smile? Maybe they took this picture in the middle of summer and she's sick of posing in the heat? ;)

8. Tie Back Cloqué Gown

In case you have formal events in your future… Everyone needs a Tracy Reese dress! :)

9. Walking to the Sun Fit & Flare

Fit and flare dresses are some of my favorite (especially in black!), because they are so slimming! Plus, paired with boots and the right accessories you could totally take this look back and forth from day time casual to night time fun. What do you think?

10. Emily Lace Slip

I've probably recommended this dress/slip before, but I have to recommend it again. I own this slip in off white and black and they are some of the most versatile pieces I have in my closet! I can wear them under short dresses to add a bit of length and show a little bit of lace, pair them with layers to create unique looks, and pair another slip underneath for a cute night out dress. I did not pay full price when I bought mine, but even at full price I think I would have gotten enough wears out of them last year alone to account for the higher price. This slip has gone out of stock before; don't let it slip by you this year if you like it…

Your turn:

Are you excited about the impending fall weather? What are some of your favorite things to do when it starts to get cold? Do you have enough warm clothes to get you through until spring?

Fashion Friday: More Summer Sales

So guess what?

Not only did I manage to snag the very LAST PAIR of those awesome BHLDN shoes from my last fashion post, but Anthropologie is now offering 20% off all of their sale items if you use coupon code SALEAWAY at check out. Unfortunately everything I liked was too expensive and sold out almost immediately, but I was able to get the discount on all of the things I purchased last week. $5 back on the credit card! :) (It's the little things in life that make me happy…)

As if that weren't enough I started looking at other stores as well… Did you know that Free People is ALSO offering a sale? Not just any sale though … a sale on top of a sale. Both in stores and online, without a code, you can get an additional 25% off all sale items. Plus, if you buy $100 worth of anything online, you get free shipping! I've got one item in my basket, but I'm still trying to decide if it's worth it… I've spent a lot of money this month, and I'd really rather pay down debts. But then again I never seem to have enough clothes? #DecisionsDecisions

Rather than remind you of all of the delicious things at the Urban Outfitter branded stores, I decided to take a look at ChicWish and JShoppers to see what their sales looked like…

Here's what I found:

Where did they come up with that name? I would have called it something like "Summer Cherry Dreams" or "Dripping in Cherries" … "50s A'la Mode?". (Because y'know… cherries go on top of ice cream? Eh! Maybe that's a bit far-fetched!)

Anyway, this dress looks very vintage-fun and cherries are awesome. Plus red. Isn't red the happiest of colors?

If you attempt to buy it at ChicWish, be sure to sign in for an extra 30% off if you intend on ordering $60 or more. :)

Delicate Hand-knit Fringe Cape in Red

Ever have one of those moments when you think to yourself I was born during the wrong time period? When I see this poncho, and others like it, I immediately have that feeling. Why were the clothes between the 50s and 70s so much better?! But then again, this is the two thousand teens and we have styles from all of the time periods, so isn't that awesome?

This red poncho definitely makes me think of the pink one I bought from Anthropologie back at Christmas time. It's quite possibly one of my favorite things to wear. You don't have to worry about it falling off of your shoulders as you move about, and it keeps you nice and warm! #win

If red isn't your color, they also have black and off-white. As for me, I'd definitely love to own it in any color! :)

New Swan Stone Castle Pleated Midi Skirt

When I saw this skirt for the first time today, it made me laugh. Isn't that the Neuschwanstein Castle? I thought to myself. I'm a little bit slow even with a basic knowledge of German vocabulary and I must admit it took me a second to actually think about how the castle name had been translated to English. That was definitely a blond moment if ever I were to have one (being brunette and all…).

I'm not so sure that I would ever consider wearing this, but I had to share it since I have a picture that is very similar to what is on that skirt! (And so does everyone else who has ever visited the castle, I'm sure!) The question comes down to: why didn't I think of printing my image on a skirt and selling it for $48+? Ask yourself that next time you take a picture of a castle! You could be rich! :)

Coffee Belted Twill Skater Skirt

See? I told you I was born during the wrong time period!! :) But seriously – who doesn't love twill? Or maybe it's just me after all… If you take a look at the customer image on the page, the girl's outfit totally reminds me of the school outfit Zooey Deschanel wore in her music video In the Sun; don't you agree?

Striped Flared Shirt Dress

I'm not sure why shirt dresses are so popular recently. Honestly, I really don't like them … except for this one. Maybe it was the purple? Or the gigantic bow? It's possible I just like the purse… What do you think? Are you a fan of shirt dresses?

Have any of your favorite stores begun rolling out summer discounts yet? Will you be taking advantage of any of the sales or finds I've shared today?

Summer Sales

One of the best things about my birthday is that it occurs nearly 6 months after (or before) Christmas. That means that some of my favorite stores begin having "Christmas in July" sales … right after their 4th of July sales, of course. So, while I'm stocking up on goodies with the money I receive from my birthday, I'm also getting some of the best deals of the season! Talk about winning! :)

While the BIG sales have not yet hit any of my favorite stores, I did notice that Anthropologie has started lowering prices with their mid-year tag sale. This had me wondering: what other stores were starting the discounts early? As you may well know, it may be worth it to buy some things before they hit their lowest price and ask for a discount later when they do reach their lowest price so that you are guaranteed to have your favorites…

Anyway, I spent about an hour scouring my favorite online shops for a few favorite sale picks and the following are what I've found…

Wildflower Rabbit

This is the perfect reason to shop early! I found this bunny last week and bought it initially for my nephew (before noticing the super-obvious can't-believe-I-missed-it, I-must-be-oblivious pink flowers on the feet and in the ears). Anyway, beyond being one of the cutest stuffed animals ever that seriously makes you go "awww" when you hold it in your hands, it is now out of stock online. I saw a huge box full at my local Anthropoligie in Atlanta, so if you want to get your hands on it, be sure to give them a call. :) As for the fate of my bunny? I found someone else to give him/her/it too.

sidenote: If you ever realize you've purchased the wrong stuffed animal by mistake, ALWAYS call and cancel right away! It's simply too difficult to cancel after you've received it and held it's softness in your hands! :) (I guess it's kind of like going to the animal shelter and seeing kittens and puppies available! You just can't say no! Unless you are Justin… but he's just mean.)

Kora Dress

I admit it. I love this dress and I know absolutely nothing about it except that I probably have too many curves for it and it's sold out in my size online. :( The color is nice, and the pockets look awesome! I'd definitely try it if it came back in stock…

Beaded Hibiscus Gown (Tracy Reese)

Also out of stock in my size, I actually saw this dress a few weeks back when it was at full price at the Lenox Mall Atlanta store location. Justin pointed it out. We were in a hurry so I didn't try it on, but I remarked how much it looked like a princess's dress. It was so light and airy … and super long when I held it up to me. It would definitely need to be tailored. I told Justin that maybe when it went on sale I'd buy it. I just didn't realize the sale price would be $300+… Maybe if it goes on sale some more? #INeedABallToAttend!

Miss Albright Petra Heels

Cute summer shoes ftw? I'd totally buy them except that I'd most likely trip all over myself in them. Platforms + me ≠ get along. Been there, done that. Totally fell down a bunch of concrete steps last time I wore platform sandals and got scraped up pretty bad. Blood for days… Or at least it seemed like it. :( My feet belong on the floor at all times … unless I'm wearing heels, but that's a different story…

Painted Petal Robe

There are a few color variations of this robe on BHLDN but the blue is my favorite. This looks super comfortable for lounging around in or perhaps it would work as kimono to wear with a dress or beachwear? Don't take my word for it though, since I haven't actually tried one…

Parlor Slingbacks

I fell in love with these a million and a half years ago and BHLDN finally has my size! Squee! Only they are gold instead of my go-to silver. Do I have anything to wear with them? Nobody buy them while I search my closet for the perfect outfit to wear with these! ;)

Love Sadie Crochet-Trim Trapeze Dress

I was originally looking at this dress to wear under my Free People One Emily Lace Dress, but I think it could be a cute beach dress to wear on it's own. Light and casual for the hot weather, but with a little bit of fringe at the bottom to provide flair and excitement to the wardrobe. And at a low price of $39, why not?

Do you follow summer sales to get good prices mid-year?

* Blog post prompt ROY G. BIV provided by Blogging101. (Sorry I'm missing a few colors…)

Free People – 20% off Sale Items

#ThatMomentWhen all of your favorite stores are offering discounts…

Over the weekend, not only did Anthropologie have their 40% off sale items promotion, but Free People was having a similar promotion wherein all sale items were 20% off. If you hurry, you can still take advantage as the discount ends today. Here are a few of my favorites…

I think the Night Out Dress, which comes in black, purple, and white is lovely and offers a sexy vibe while still being fairly conservative. It has a high neck and a short skirt. The arms and chest are a bit tight fitting, so I recommend going up a size if you have thicker arms or a larger chest. This would be a fantastic dress for work or going out for the night, but I wouldn't recommend it as a day dress. It would be very easy to mess up the lace sleeves if you aren't careful.

When the Free People near me got the first Shine So Bright dress in stock, everyone in the store was clamoring to try it on. Even me! (Justin didn't like it though, so I never tried it on.) Anyway, it is much prettier in person than it looks online. Plus, it's on sale at an even deeper discount thanks to their current promotion. With only select sizes available, I recommend buying it if you like it even the tiniest bit. You can always return it within 14 days if you need to. :)

While I did buy the Creme De La Dress over the weekend, I did not buy it from Free People. Instead I bought the dress from Nordstrom Rack at an even deeper discount than Free People was offering (even with their sale prices discounted!). I have not tried it on yet, so I can't offer any fitting advice, but if you like this dress in either red or purple I recommend either getting a price match (if they will) at Free People or buying from Nordstrom Rack. Unfortunately, other colors like white and black will need to be bought from Free People themselves.

With so many events going on this year (and my love of lace) I had to get my hands on the gorgeous Mavi Lace Dress as soon as I saw it go on sale. (I rarely catch Free People sales.) I've never tried it on, but I intend on taking full advantage of their return policy if I find it doesn't fit or look right on me. Prices go up too much on FP merchandise if you miss buying it (on sale) in stores and are forced into buying it on ebay. :(

Getting discounted further and further, I keep watching this dress never actually considering pulling out my credit card. It's pretty, but it's not gorgeous. Perhaps at a price tag of approx. $40 after the 20% off is taken, maybe it will make it offline and into your closet even if it still (even with the discount) not made it into mine. (Note that I have not tried it on and have no idea what it actually looks like in person or how it fits. Sorry!)

On Friday when I first heard about the sale, the first piece I fell in love with was the Eyelet Duster. Almost immediately, this product sold out, however, upon calling, I was informed that there were quite a few still available in stores and online. If you get the same notification I did about the product being out of stock, be sure to call Free People and confirm. You might get lucky!

Will you be shopping at FP today to take advantage of their current promotion? Or will you be sticking to new year resolutions and saving money?

Either way, if you live in the US, enjoy MLK day. Hopefully you have the day off and can finally get some stuff done. :)
