Memorial Day Sale!

I haven't done a fashion post in a while and, as of next Friday this blog is about to go knee deep into travel posts (and Friday food posts), so we are going to go light for this post as I share a few of my most desired clothing prospects. Bare with me–

Blair Empire Top $49.95 and on sale this weekend for an additional 30% off

Cafe Dress $158

Tassel Fringe Poncho $59.95 (+ additional 30% off)

Are any of your favorite stores having a sale for the holiday weekend? Is there anything in my list of likes that you would consider buying for yourself?

Summer Sales

One of the best things about my birthday is that it occurs nearly 6 months after (or before) Christmas. That means that some of my favorite stores begin having "Christmas in July" sales … right after their 4th of July sales, of course. So, while I'm stocking up on goodies with the money I receive from my birthday, I'm also getting some of the best deals of the season! Talk about winning! :)

While the BIG sales have not yet hit any of my favorite stores, I did notice that Anthropologie has started lowering prices with their mid-year tag sale. This had me wondering: what other stores were starting the discounts early? As you may well know, it may be worth it to buy some things before they hit their lowest price and ask for a discount later when they do reach their lowest price so that you are guaranteed to have your favorites…

Anyway, I spent about an hour scouring my favorite online shops for a few favorite sale picks and the following are what I've found…

Wildflower Rabbit

This is the perfect reason to shop early! I found this bunny last week and bought it initially for my nephew (before noticing the super-obvious can't-believe-I-missed-it, I-must-be-oblivious pink flowers on the feet and in the ears). Anyway, beyond being one of the cutest stuffed animals ever that seriously makes you go "awww" when you hold it in your hands, it is now out of stock online. I saw a huge box full at my local Anthropoligie in Atlanta, so if you want to get your hands on it, be sure to give them a call. :) As for the fate of my bunny? I found someone else to give him/her/it too.

sidenote: If you ever realize you've purchased the wrong stuffed animal by mistake, ALWAYS call and cancel right away! It's simply too difficult to cancel after you've received it and held it's softness in your hands! :) (I guess it's kind of like going to the animal shelter and seeing kittens and puppies available! You just can't say no! Unless you are Justin… but he's just mean.)

Kora Dress

I admit it. I love this dress and I know absolutely nothing about it except that I probably have too many curves for it and it's sold out in my size online. :( The color is nice, and the pockets look awesome! I'd definitely try it if it came back in stock…

Beaded Hibiscus Gown (Tracy Reese)

Also out of stock in my size, I actually saw this dress a few weeks back when it was at full price at the Lenox Mall Atlanta store location. Justin pointed it out. We were in a hurry so I didn't try it on, but I remarked how much it looked like a princess's dress. It was so light and airy … and super long when I held it up to me. It would definitely need to be tailored. I told Justin that maybe when it went on sale I'd buy it. I just didn't realize the sale price would be $300+… Maybe if it goes on sale some more? #INeedABallToAttend!

Miss Albright Petra Heels

Cute summer shoes ftw? I'd totally buy them except that I'd most likely trip all over myself in them. Platforms + me ≠ get along. Been there, done that. Totally fell down a bunch of concrete steps last time I wore platform sandals and got scraped up pretty bad. Blood for days… Or at least it seemed like it. :( My feet belong on the floor at all times … unless I'm wearing heels, but that's a different story…

Painted Petal Robe

There are a few color variations of this robe on BHLDN but the blue is my favorite. This looks super comfortable for lounging around in or perhaps it would work as kimono to wear with a dress or beachwear? Don't take my word for it though, since I haven't actually tried one…

Parlor Slingbacks

I fell in love with these a million and a half years ago and BHLDN finally has my size! Squee! Only they are gold instead of my go-to silver. Do I have anything to wear with them? Nobody buy them while I search my closet for the perfect outfit to wear with these! ;)

Love Sadie Crochet-Trim Trapeze Dress

I was originally looking at this dress to wear under my Free People One Emily Lace Dress, but I think it could be a cute beach dress to wear on it's own. Light and casual for the hot weather, but with a little bit of fringe at the bottom to provide flair and excitement to the wardrobe. And at a low price of $39, why not?

Do you follow summer sales to get good prices mid-year?

Anthropologie Sales in Anticipation of Memorial Day Weekend

One of my favorite stores is at it again! They just marked down a bunch of new items, and if you order today and use the coupon code HELLOWSUNSHINE you can get free shipping when you purchase $150 or more! The following are a few of my favorites:

I recently ordered the Savan Jacquard Gown when it was 20% off. It's an online exclusive and has so-so ratings, but I knew I would be upset with myself if I didn't give it a shot. As I've mentioned before on this blog, ordering items from Ebay is ten times worse than ordering from Anthropologie to begin with since you are usually paying regular price without any options to return things that don't work, fit or look the way you want them to.

I won't have tried on each item I share in this blog post today, but I did try this one so let me provide a little feedback. :) First of all I ordered a size 2 in petite. Normally I would have ordered a 0 in regular, but given that this dress goes to the floor and reviewers were complaining about this being a small dress, I decided to size up. Thank goodness I did! First of all, I'm 5'2" and have a relatively small chest. When I put this on, it fit extremely well (almost tight) through the arms, waist and chest. You can't lengthen or shorten the straps, so it was pretty important that it fit. The empire waist however was pretty big – almost to the point of being too big on me. If I have my way and get the dress altered like I'm wanting to, I will probably have it taken in just a bit. The other key problem for me was the length. This dress was at least one foot longer than me. If have it altered there will be so much extra fabric … perhaps enough to make a purse, for those of you that are creative, have the time, and are willing!

While I do love this dress, with all of the alterations that will need to be made for me to wear this, I'm not sure if I will keep it. Do keep what I said in mind if you purchase it though. It's a lovely piece, but it may not be so lovely for the price, if it costs that much more to get it to fit you.

The large number of full length dresses including the Watercolor Garden Maxi and Anthemon Gown make me happy. Because I'm so short, I almost always have to have these types of items altered, but I love the elegant look they give. Unfortunately, this dress was not quite my favorite. I ordered a size 0 in petite and it was a little bit too long and I hated the sound the fabric made when I walked. Plus, the dress style wasn't my favorite either. The colors are beautiful for a summer day though. If you are tall and need a beautiful dress for a wedding or a cruise, I think one of these might be just the thing. :)

As much as I wanted to love this dress, I found after ordering it, that it has vertical stripes. Maybe some of you looking at it right now are thinking "duh!", but to my eyes the patterns looked varied and crazy … not vertical and stripe-like. Needless to say, I don't wear stripes. Plus, this dress has a white zipper down the back that just looks out of place. I do have to say the fit of this dress is fantastic! I ordered my regular size, and, aside from the stripeyness and the white zipper, it fit perfectly and could easily be an extremely fun dress to wear. As for me, though, it's going back to my local Anthropologie. Since the size 0 is sold out online, I'm pretty sure I'll make someone somewhere happy when I eventually get it returned! :)

Within the past few years, I have become more of a dress and jeans person. I don't wear skirts at all. However, one of my favorite skirts ever is one I bought at a vintage store in Atlanta years and years ago. It's a beautiful black, heavy 1950s number that barely fits me, but makes me feel like a princess when I wear it. The skirt has definitely had better days before it even reached my closet which is why I ordered the Floristic Tulle Skirt. The keyword in the title being "tulle" which is the one word I didn't pay attention to when I ordered. Oops! So yeah, this skirt is amazing, full, long (at least as long as it is on the model), and tulle, which is the main reason I'm returning it. If you buy it for the beautiful vibrant flowers on the skirt and you don't mind the tulle aspect (or the weight), you'll love it! If you are looking for more of a vintage knock-off like I was, this may not be the skirt for you…

While looking for a shirt (because I'm always looking for new tops), I saw this gorgeous turquoise top that fits loose but still has a bit of shape to it, so I ordered it. I was both surprised and happy when I received my usual size XS in the mail. I'm still getting comfortable with the rounded neck (I typically wear v-necks or a combination of layers that look more like a v-neck than rounded), but overall the shirt is light, comfortable, and a perfect transition piece for the spring. Now if only Georgia weather understood was "transition" and "spring" meant… Did you know that the weather here is already in the upper 80s/low 90s?!

Finally, these are items I have yet to try but love all the same. :)

Is there anything on sale (or not) at Anthropologie that you are loving currently?

Anthro Sale – What I Would Buy If… (home edition)

Imagine you have all of the money in the world. What would you buy if Anthropologie was having a sale on their sale products and you could afford any of it? (Make sure to use coupon code EXTRAEXTRA).

I'm in the opposite situation which makes this a wish post. More specifically an I wish I were in my own house and could afford to decorate even though I still want to be able to afford a trip to Europe post … that isn't about clothes. Because seriously: clothes come first. Always. ;)

1. Rosette Quilt

Remember the pink stage? I'm 95% certain that every little girl goes through it whether you want to or not. It's the time in your life when you are super young and your mom is so happy she's having (or has had) a little baby girl and everything is coming up roses (or pink). Your bedspread is pink, your wallpaper is pink, you have more pink in your wardrobe then you can ever imagine wearing!

Through the help of my mom and grandmother, I went through the pink stage. And the floral stage. When I emerged I found myself enamored with the ocean. My bedroom colors were henceforth purple, blue, and a lovely green-yellow. I spent so much money on the curtains for my bedroom and I ended up designing them myself simply because nothing else made me happy. I wanted something unique that fit my personality … nothing else seemed as unique as designing your own.

Anyway, my beautiful bedspread featuring all of the above colors made me happy and content for years and years and years until, eventually it wore out. Had the Rosette quilt in this lovely shade of purple been available at the right price, I might have considered it. Unfortunately, years later for my wedding, my husband and I received this exact style quilt in blue only to find strings detaching and the blanket falling apart after only a year of light use. At this point, as much as I love the color of this quilt, I think I will simply sit back and admire it while you fine readers buy it. I don't want to run into problems again! It is a gorgeous quilt though!

2. Farmers Market Basket

This was on sale last year as well, but I don't know if it ever went as low as 40% off? Anyway, I love this basket. It is made out of stoneware so it will last until you break it; it's not sturdy cardboard like what you might actually find at the farmers market. Best of all: it looks great with strawberries in it. I haven't actually tried putting strawberries in it, but I have a fantastic imagination. Red + turquoise + devine!

3. Pop Dot Decanter

Last year Justin and I bought a lovely blue decanter from Anthropologie so what use do we have for a pretty, decorative purple one? None, I tell you. None. This makes me sad. Apparently I need more purple in my life. Don't you agree?

4. Baker's Kit

I think they have a beer making kit as well? Right?

Anyway, the baker's kit is simply A-DOR-A-BLE. I never saw it in real life, but seriously. Look at that image. Isn't there someone in your life this would make the perfect gift for? *sigh* Really, it just makes me daydream of snowy days inside making sugar cookies. There is nothing better. :)

5. Georgiana Duvet

First of all, duvets are so way better than quilts or comforters. I don't know why, but they just are. They are classier I suppose?

Second of all, remember that pink stage I was talking about?

Maybe I never outgrew it. Perhaps I only thought I did. Why else would this gorgeous duvet be on my wish list?

Is this love? … Or lust?

Only time will tell. (After the product sells out and I am forced to cry for weeks because the only way to obtain it is to order it off of ebay : it eventually goes on sale from some loser who didn't care for it properly and spilled ink on it but is still charging an exorbitant price merely because they bought the gorgeousness on sale from Anthro and I did not. Sad day, indeed.)

6. Scalloped Fringe Throw

While the blue would be my first choice, the red isn't necessarily a deal breaker at 40% off $79.95. I can imagine it looking pretty when pulled out at Christmas and draped lovingly over the sofa for cuddling by the fire and staring at the Christmas tree. Can't you picture it?

No?

Neither can I. I need more Christmas in my life. :) Yes, in January.

7. Autumn Filigree Bed

Anthropologie has this thing where the post pictures of products and I want them. Do I need them? No. But I am a female and shopping is in my nature…

8. Library Letter

If you are getting married or know someone who is … or if you know someone (like me) who needs random useless decorative junk to fill their deepest desires, you may be interested in buying these books (er… letters). They are a need, right?

Have you purchased anything yet from Anthropologie's sale? Will you be purchasing anything from today's list?

If you are interested in any of the items from either list, be sure to check them out before they disappear! You always have limited time when Anthropologie puts their products on sale and i wouldn't want you to miss out!

Anthro Sale – What I Would Buy If… (clothing edition)

I love shopping at Anthropologie … and I love when they have sales. I especially love when they have sales on sales. (I've never actually seen sales on sales on sales, but I wouldn't be opposed to that!) Unfortunately, given our current circumstances (traveling to Europe this year and what not), it would be much wiser for me to refrain from actually purchasing anything at my favorite store. Tragic, I know. :) My circumstances, however, do not prevent me from tempting you with the sale goodness though.

The following is what I would buy if I had all of the money in the world…

Because everyone needs a pair of white skinny jeans.

2. Pineland Maxi Dress

This dress has a gorgeous color and I picture Scarlett O'Hara in her gorgeous green velvet curtain dress when I see it. However, even on the model, I think this dress needs *something*. A belt or shrug … maybe fancy gold shoes? At 40% off (down from $200), you might be able to afford to take this dress to the next level of awesomeness… Or, if you are anything like me, maybe not?

3. Current/Elliott Distressed Denim Vest

No judgement, but I watch Austin and Ally on Disney channel with the kids I babysit for and Ally always wears these cute outfits with a distressed denim vest. Perhaps I could pull that look off too if I had this vest?

Another reminder of a bygone era (think Scarlett O'Hara's red dress), I am in love with the fringe on the bottom of this dress. The top is pretty boring, but I think with the right accessories it could really be pretty. Is that why it's on the sale rack? (Down from $430! crazy, right?)

Impressive naming, don't you think? ;) Either way, I love the newest fad (or is it old at this point?) of clothing that drapes longer on the sides and shorter in the back. It's cute, versatile, and makes me feel like I look slimmer. Plus, this cardigan looks super light and comfy, perfect for fall and spring!

Fun and unique as well as reminiscent of a coat my mom had in the 70s, I'm in love with this skirt. I truly think if I spotted this in a thrift store I would think it was much older than it actually is. I especially think it would look cute with a black version of the Frye lace-up boots I recently got. What do you think, Justin? :-P

(There's nothing like peer pressure.)

Even in yellow (my least favorite color), I think this Top is gorgeous and ultra-feminine. With 40% off of $100, this could be a great buy if you are in need of a new work sweater.

Do you own this yet? Seriously?! Go buy it. Like now. Everything else on my list is stuff I don't own, but I do own this and you need it. Seriously.

These cuties remind me of Liz Lisa. Cute and girly. I definitely said no to the $170 price tag, but 40% off of $120 for a pair of warm gloves could be just the ticket I need for purchasing… Then again plane tickets to Europe are really expensive… *sigh*

Have you had the chance to look at Anthro's incredible sale? Do any of the clothing items I've listed above intrigue you?

Tomorrow I'm planning on sharing all of my household sale finds from Anthro with you. Don't wait on me though… Anthro products sell out fast during the promotion period. If there is something you really like, be sure to jump on it! :) Have a fantastic Wednesday!

Anthro Clothing Review Christmas 2014

As the days creep closer and closer to Christmas and New Years, I find myself out shopping more and more taking advantage of deals, enjoying the crowds, and doing a handful of secret shopping jobs that usually encourage me to spend more rather than save the small bit I've made. :-/ While these days haven't been so kind to my wallet, I decided to share with you a few reviews … that will hopefully make my shopping addiction worth something.

Some time after Thanksgiving I finally got my hands on this beauty – the Bobble Poncho from Sleeping on Snow. It went out of stock the day before Thanksgiving then came back in stock shortly before a non-Black Friday Anthro promotion at which point it sold out again. If you can get your hands on this beautiful, online-only, now-exclusive Anthro beauty, I highly recommend it. Sleeping On Snow provides some of my favorite Anthro winter goodies, and this one is no exception.

Now for the details… This product looks more purple in person than pink. It caught me by surprise. Its comes in one size, which probably looks best on thinner people. Also, take notice of the little balls in the fringe; they exist and you should know it. I bought the poncho thinking that if I didn't like those balls, I would just cut them off. I didn't know they existed (before I received the poncho) until I started reading reviews on Anthro's website. Since I bought it on sale, I didn't really care about maintaining the freshly bought look … As always,  shopping for clothes for me is about finding things I like or making things I dislike work for me. Luckily the balls did not detract from the overall look and I have had no reason to pull out my scissors. Plus, the super soft warmth makes this poncho really fun to wear as well as looking gorgeous on. :)

While returning another item at Anthropologie I discovered the Switch Stitch Cardigan in beige and off-white. Because it was the last item of its kind on the sale rack I purchased one in a petite xxs and one in a regular size xs.  They both look good even if the petite xxs has gotten more wear. It's an inch or two shorter than the regular xs and not quite as wide through the shoulders. They are very close in size though, so if Anthro is out of one size, you shouldn't feel too badly about buying the other. The main reason I wear the petite xxs over the regular xs is the color; I wear off white far more than beige. That's just the way I am… You'll find that the fabric is soft, but it is also pretty thin for being a sweater. I like it, but I also live in the south where winters are warmer than other parts of the world. If nothing else, this is a fantastic transition piece getting you from fall to winter and winter to spring.

My most recent purchase is the Shawled Wool Sweatercoat that I bought during the last day of the 30% off sale items last week. I was expecting to hate it; it looks like a coat for tall, extraordinarily thin people, neither of which I am. I ordered in a regular xs. The jury is still out on whether I should keep it and wear it, but it fits exactly as it looks on the model. The arms are slim but the fabric is stretchy conforming to your body (or whatever you have on your body). The jacket ties like a robe making my main complaint my inability to tie a pretty bow. Overall, this jacket is slimming and gorgeous. The purchase I intended to take straight back to Anthro (after confirming it made me look like a slob) is now hanging in my closet. Dang you Anthro! I really need to save my money!

I bought the Maisy Lace Turban in a rich green color, and I'm loving it so far (especially at the 30% off cost I bought it at). I have so many green dresses (and now a green coat!) to wear it with. It's nice and soft (rather than itchy) and not too tight around your head. (Do I need to provide head measurements?) I highly recommend this beautiful headband to dress up any outfit.

I bought this Asymmetrical Leather Belt on sale to wear with…

the Plenty by Tracy Reese Petal Fete Dress I've been waiting on to go on sale. Paired with a denim jacket, this outfit looks down to earth and fun. It's soft and light filling on and looks WAY BETTER in person than it does on the model. Just trust me on that. The colors are bright and fun. I tried on a size 0 which fit me perfectly.

In mass quantities on my local Anthro sales rack, I was tempted to try the gorgeous Lavendel Dress on. Compared to the Petal Fete Dress, I loved that this dress was sleeveless, one of my favorite styles. The fabric was dense and stiff not soft and flowy. The main problem this dress had was the zipper; even off of my body I was struggling to get the zipper up on this dress. Perhaps at a deeper discount I might consider it. This is a dress I would not be able to wear frequently unless the zipper was replaced and that is really off-putting when it comes to buying an expensive anything.

Also on my wishlist but inevitably not making the cut was the Odense Crochet Topper. I tried the small which fit, but I wasn't in love. The sweater looks very business-like, which if you work in a traditional office setting, is great! I don't. I could not see myself wearing this sweater in a casual setting. It was thick and stiff, and as such I imagine it would not stretch like other sweaters do. Still, a $50 sweater that doesn't get worn is a waste of money for the person who doesn't wear it. Back to the rack it went.

The Frye Parker Lace-Up Boots have been the most extravagant thing I have spent money on in the past few weeks. I'm still trying to decide if they are worth the money, but since they only had one size 6 left in stock, I bought them. I usually wear somewhere between a children's size 4 and adult size 6; while these fit a tiny bit big at the size 6 I purchased them in, they didn't feel loose given how tight you could tie the laces. I'd compare them to the fit of ice skates: loose through the foot giving you room to move your toes and keeping you from feeling claustrophobic but tight through the ankle and calf muscle allowing them to stay up comfortably. The good: they are comfortable and cute. Apparently they are made from real, soft leather, so you will need to treat them like you would a leather jacket making sure to condition them. If you take care of them, Frye says that they should last you forever. While these boots do need to be laced, after the first lacing, they have a zipper that you can use from that point on. On my short, petite frame, the boots end within one inch of my knee. The three inch heel is barely noticeable when you are wearing the shoes as they are that comfortable. You might find the laces to be a bit short though, especially if you have thicker calves. The tongue of the shoe is large enough to accommodate for a wide-range in calf sizes which is nice even if the laces have to be replaced with longer ones after purchasing this shoe.

Overall, if you value comfortable well-made, leather boots, you will probably like these. As for me, I think I would prefer them on sale. It's really hard to fathom spending so much on boots, well-made or not. Of course, even my best not well-made boots cost upwards of $100 making me feel even more uncertain about the true value of these boots versus any other kind.

You can purchase these almost anywhere in any color, not just at Anthropologie. Check out the stock at Belk, BloomingdalesMacys or Von Maur, for example. Don't wait too long though; these boots (at all of the various retailers) are going out of stock fast!
